Hot Line Demo

VEC offers a free demonstration to schools and civic groups about safety around power lines. A lineman will utilize real equipment set up on a trailer to demonstrate how each device on a power line distribution system works. See and hear what happens when a squirrel, kite, tree branch or a person (a hot dog is used instead of a real person) comes in contact with a high-voltage power line.

The demonstration when set up is approximately 15 feet long, 32 inches deep and 8 feet tall and can be set up indoors or out. The demo must have a 240 volt power outlet or service panel within 100 ft. The demo can fit through any door that is at least 32 inches wide. If the demonstration is set up indoors, the room must allow 20 feet between the audience and the demonstration and have a ceiling of at least 10 feet in height.
